CURRENT BUSINESS:
· Coordinating the development of the proposed International
Avenue Technology Centre which could include up to fifty acres on and around the Rona
and CN lands at 60th street S.E. near the new east side freeway in Calgary. The intention
is to link the Technology Hub with the Alberta Government’s program for new
commercialization/incubation centres.
· Activation and launching of Rockmount Trust Company, a new provincial trust
company which will engage in a range of banking activities including trust services,
investment management, property financing and venture capital; all consistent with the
Alberta Government’s Task Force recommendations to build the Alberta capital market.
· Managing a major interest in Sunlife Plaza, a one million square foot office
complex which includes the head office of Suncor Energy Inc, the largest player in the
Alberta oil sands as well as being a diverse integrated oil company with major
initiatives in alternative energy technology.
· Managing a portfolio of securities in conjunction with Mawer Investment
Management Ltd., Calgary’s largest investment counsel, which has demonstrated superior
performance, particularly in global equities and small cap companies, and is an advisor
to Alberta Investment Management Corporation.
· Other Rockmount interests include:
· Saskalta Base Oils Corporation - development and construction of a used motor oil re-refinery in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
· Boreal Biotech Inc. - jointly owned with the Economic Development Authority of Kamsack, Saskatchewan.
VOLUNTEER AND NON-PROFIT ACTIVITIES: · International
Avenue Arts and Culture Centre – A new facility proposed for Calgary’s east side, designed to accommodate
the arts and cultural activities of the city’s burgeoning ethnic communities.
· University of California, Berkeley / Berkeley Club of Canada - Recently
organized the Alberta/California Energy Conference in Berkeley. Also headed a
successful campaign to establish a Professorship of Canadian Studies at Berkeley,
intended to raise awareness of Canada/U.S. issues.
· University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business Mentorship Program – Since 2002, Rockmount
has been mentoring MBA and undergraduate students to assist them in their career
development.
