Khalid Asaria, Vice President, Research
Khalid Asaria joined Rockmount Financial Corporation in 2016 as an intern after graduating from Queens University. He became a permanent member of the team in 2017 as an analyst, and in January 2020 he was named Vice President of Research.
Khalid tracks financial markets and deal flow in relevant sectors spanning Venture Capital, Private Equity, M&A, and IPO activity. He meets with potential proponents, explores new deal structures, and conducts research to find insightful and growing trends and opportunities. He collaborates regularly with a variety of government organizations such as Calgary Economic Development, Alberta Environment and Parks, Alberta Economic Development and Trade, Invest Alberta, Alberta Enterprise Corporation, and Alberta Innovates. He has been involved in the groundwork preparation of Rockmount Trust. And in the brownfield redevelopment strategies of the Hub Oil land, while Rockmount works to achieve highest and best use possibilities for the development of this property. Khalid leads the ongoing development of Rockmount’s Innovation Finance program. This is a university-level course on financing innovation. What began as a research project with the University of Athabasca has evolved into a useful tool for mapping innovation and incubation projects. It is used by Rockmount to consult advisee companies, effectively tracking their progression within its deal flow pipeline. Khalid was born and raised in Calgary. He received the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship and Queen’s University Entrance Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours in 2016. He continues to pursue professional development and business networking opportunities such as attending the Inventures Conference in 2018 and 2019, and AIESEC’s National Leadership Development Conference in 2019. He continues to stay up to date with entrepreneurial initiatives in his community, and in the future, he plans to complete an MBA. Khalid enjoys giving back to his community, raising funds for organizations like Relay for Life and supporting local food banks. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and all things basketball - playing, coaching, and cheering on the Raptors. |
