Maxime Bernier, MP for Beauce, Quebec is an articulate advocate of smaller-government and decentralized federalism. He shared some thoughts on a more fiscally conservative Canada, a smaller federal government and how this approach can ensure national prosperity and unity.
Mr. Bernier was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2011 with significant majorities. Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, Mr. Bernier was Vice-President of Standard Life of Canada and then Manager of Corporate and International Relations at the Quebec Securities Commission.
As an independent consultant, he has provided advice on the development of legislation and regulations for financial institutions. He has served as Executive Vice President of the Montreal Economic Institute. Mr. Bernier has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Quebec and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1990. Mr. Bernier is also member of several charitable organizations.
